Kettlewell to West Burton

On the last Day, it was Dave’s turn to partner me on the longest stage (of about 14 miles or 22.5km), leaving Tim and Liam with the ‘glory’ (finishing) leg from West Burton back to Reeth. The rain camedown pretty incessantly for most of the morning but it gradually cleared as we reached half way.

I was stopped in my tracks when I read the plaque on the bench (pics 3 & 4), wondering how on earth did ‘he’ get on there. But a quick bit of research revealed that it’s a reference to the ‘last trumpet’ in the Bible (Corinthians 15:52). Yorkshire folk (of which I am one) have a habit of altering and leaving bits of words off tha knows! 🤔

Great series Mike, I’d heard of the Inn way but not paid it much attention but it looks like a great walk, and Yorkshire is lovely walking country😀

Aye,’appen, it’s God’s own country (or should that be county?) Thanks for your comment Jim. I’m sure you might consider doing one or two of them once the Wainwrights are completed. 👍👍😊

That is a strange memorial plaque! Wonder what that’s about!
And for another chuckle, if someone said they had a photo of a grouse butt, that’s not the photo I’d be expecting. 🤣
I’m glad you got some sunshine because the downpours looked miserable.
Fabulous photos of a great sounding trip. As always, thanks for sharing them.

I didn’t mention it but on the drive over the moor to Askrigg on Day 1, Tim and I saw loads of partridges. (One flew across and almost landed on my bonnet but came to rest just to the side of the car, so Tim had a close up view of it). We then passed 5 or 6 people spread out (about 200 yards apart) along the road, some with sporting dogs. So they would be the beaters for “a shoot”. The guns would be hiding in those butts. (Hope that made you smile too!)
It was a great trip, and it’s nice that I can share it via a few words and photos. It’s good to know the posts were appreciated. Thanks. 👍👍🥰

What a beautiful landscape, Mike! The weather may have been less than welcoming, but the views are wonderful. And what a curious discovery on that bench! Yorkshire dialect, keeping the rest of us guessing! 😉

Yes, it’s quite a bit different to Cyprus that’s for sure! It’s amazing what people will find to put on their relatives benches. It definitely caught my attention anyway. 👍👍😊
