After several more days of sub-zero temperatures in the Val d’Hรฉrens (both during the day and overnight) the forecast for today was for up to 4 degrees C (39 F).ย  ๐Ÿ˜…ย  So, to take advantage of this balmy weather, I decided to take the bus up to Arolla and walk back to Les Haudรจres.

Again I decided not to take the snow shoes, which was a big mistake, (some people never learn ๐Ÿคญ), as the snow was thigh deep in places and, even where people had gone before, it was much more difficult to wade through than I expected. ย  However, after one or two detours via the road (and a quick refreshment at La Gouille), the path thereafter became much easier and I soon made it to Les Haudรจres.

Note that the first 3 photos below were taken from the bus on the way up to Arolla.

Thanks. It actually felt quite warm trudging through the snow – it was hard work! ๐Ÿ™‚

Tell you what… I would give my little finger to be able to head out and experience a walk in that! Just wow!

Well, it’s not that far away and Easyjet flights can be REALLY cheap. So there’s no need to lop of off that little digit!

It’s snowing again now actually… and more forecast in the next few days. Though note, the temperature will be between -1 and -12, so you’d need your winter woollies.

Ah yes, jetting off to the sun. Sounds nice, though S. Africa is not on my to do list I’m afraid. As for the snow – it’ll still be here this time next year – and the year after… ๐Ÿ˜Š

Cape Town is home… havenโ€™t been back since 2015 so long overdue! Mum turns 80 so itโ€™s going to be amazing to have all the family come together from far and wide.
Standing with your toes on a step and dropping your heel (one side at a time) and holding for say 30 secs to start with, is just as good! Great calf stretch!!!

Ah yes, I recall you saying now. It’s nice that the family will be all together. Your mum will appreciate that. These things don’t happen often enough. We come back to the UK next week to meet up with my sister and brother. I also need to find a suit for my daughter’s wedding in April, which will be another family get together. (Like London buses… ๐Ÿ˜‰) I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Great pictures of a wonderful landscape. The shot of the ice climbers are fantastic even it’s from a bus. They look very small against that ice wall.
Hope you against all odds remember your snow shoes next time ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

I did take some other pictures of the climbers when I walked back, but they didn’t look as good as that one from the bus. And you read my mind, as I’m torn between going cross country skiing or taking my snowshoes out tomorrow… You’ll have to wait and see which I decide to do. ๐Ÿ™‚
