More Butterflies and Some Garden Ornaments…

Last week the sun was shining brightly and one of our (quite tall) buddleias was awash with butterflies – mostly out of reach. So I got out the step ladder and took a few snaps…

To add a bit more interest to this post, I’ve included a few of the items we’ve added to the garden since we moved in last year…

(Please note that I ‘won’ the tee marker, pic 9, in a silent auction last year, when my golf club decided to replace all the slate markers with some wooden sleepers).

So impressive, Mike! I’m pleased to see that your white buddleia is attracting so many butterflies – in my experience they generally go for the mauve wild-type flowers, but clearly not in Wales! A great selection, I’ve not seen a single small tortoiseshell or painted lady this year.

Thanks Viv. The Painted Lady’s came quite late to the party. They were the ones missing from my previous post at the end of July. But then it is a long way for them to travel to get here! Our other buddleias are all smaller and mauve/purple, but the flowers don’t seem to be as ‘plump’ as the white one.

Very impressive Mike! Not had a butterfly on my Buddleia for weeks and now the flowers are all but over. So many Small Tortoiseshells, must be something in the Welsh air, they are quite the rarity around here now.

Thanks Brian. Yes, the Tortoiseshells all looked pretty new as well. However, there’s not many flowers left on that buddleia now, so I may have seen the last of them. I have noticed quite a few white ones flitting about today though.

I need to approve it first! (Don’t want any old riff raff getting in on the act!) And I’ve been out golfing today. 🏌️‍😊♂️👍👍

Wow, such beautiful butterflies you captured, and your garden ornaments are so pretty! Your amazing buddleias seem to be a magnet for butterflies. 🦋😊 I’ve hardly seen any butterflies at all lately, and very few during the summer that is now almost over.

Unfortunately, neither my English skills are that good nor do I know anything about golf, so I don’t really understand what it was you won. But of course I can see your image number 9, the Tee marker? 😏

Thanks Anita. Although it was quite cool (about 10 degrees) this morning, and we had lots of rain yesterday, I still saw 3 different butterflies while out walking Tomos and 3 or 4 Large Whites when I returned home!
As for the tee marker, all of our golf club members were invited to bid an amount of money for any of the old 18 tee markers, with the highest bid ‘winning’ or getting the marker they bid for. Nobody knew what the other bids were so you had to guess what might be enough to get the one you wanted. I chose the 13th as that’s my birthday and figured it might be lucky for me – as it indeed was! 👍👍😊

I see, then you were lucky, both in terms of butterflies and the prize. Congratulations!😁🦋
