Bheinn Sgritheall (974m or 3,196ft), NW Scotland
Another good reason for going for a walk is to get to the top of a hill or mountain. “Why?” you may ask. Most people would probably answer either “Because it’s there!” or “To take in the views!”
You will have seen from some of my previous posts (and the featured image above) there’s a whopping big mountain towering over Arnisdale, so you will not be surprised to read that, for both of those reasons, I took a trip to the top…
As it’s over 3,000ft, Beinn Sgritheall is one of the 282 Munros in Scotland. Many decide to ascend or ‘bag’ them all, not just once, but sometimes twice or even more… (Now THAT does take some explaining!) I’m not sure how many Munros I’ve done, but this could be my 4th (after Ben Nevis above Fort William, Bidean Nam Bian in Glen Coe and Moel Chean Dearg near Lochcarron).
I have to say that it was the hardest of them all – though I was a bit younger and fitter when I did the others. However I did read that Beinn Sgritheall (pronounced Byn Skreehal btw) is considered by many to be the steepest of all the Munros, rising, as it does, almost immediately from sea level. And don’t my legs, knees and back know it!! 😟
But, as you will see below, there are fabulous views from the top, so it was all well worth it (I think 🤔)…
