Lonely Tree Walk and Llanfyllin Town

You will see from this post that we have downsized from living in an area with big mountains (Switzerland) to just mountains (Snowdonia) to rolling hills,,, Though, on the plus side, our new garden and house (resp.) are bigger! 😊

To give you flavour of our local surroundings, towards the end of August I went for a walk up to a ‘hill’ which is intriguingly referred to as “Lonely Tree”. I expected to find a single tree, (a bit like the one at Sycamore Gap, which was chopped down in its prime) but in fact it was surrounded by a fence and a host of bushes. (See pic 7). I was going to give it a big hug too, just to make it feel wanted!

On my return home I wandered through the town and took a few photos. In case you are wondering, the town is named after St Myllin, but due to the joys of the Welsh language the M mutates into an F. Don’t ask me to explain why but I have been told that the mutations make it easier to say… 🤔

What an enjoyable walk you shared with us, Mike, thank you. These emerald hillsides with the vast landscapes, so serene. I liked the old signs, too. I always enjoy your photos so much I click on and do the slide show, and in so doing got a smile with the lonely tree you did find (in the caption). Wonderful post and sending smiles back to you….

Thank you Jet. The landscape is completely different to the rugged scenery of north Wales and Switzerland for sure! I just love the way the trees are just scattered over the undulating hills, either individually or in small copses. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. I have more to come in the next few days, which I hope make you smile even more! 😀

Yes, I’ve been out testing the footpaths in the neighbourhood, but some are blocked (by fencing) or impassable (due to overgrown vegetation). 😌 We’re not far though from a small range called “the Berwyns” so I hope to tread some hill paths along there (and post pics obviously!) 👍👍

Fun trip around the neighborhood! Yes, from Alps, to the rugged around Snowdonia, this does look more rolling, but… still kind of rugged, you know? A little wilder than similar I’ve seen in England, yes? I love those half timbered buildings.

Definitely more rolling and quite sparsely populated. It’s 12 miles to the nearest decent sized town and about twice that to a ‘big’ town (Shrewsbury).
