And so we come to the last few days of our trip. One of the many highlights, apart from all the amazing views and reaching Monte Carlo in one piece, has to be the astonishing structure, which I was told was called Napoleon’s Way, seen in pics 6-8. It was certainly easier than trying to ride, or carry your bike, across all those boulders!

I have great admiration for your performance… although it may have been a little more “comfortable” on the Route Napoleon, it remains a wild environment where you don’t immediately think of “cycling”. What a big contrast with Monte Carlo ha ha ah…. Thanks for the beautiful images Mike.

Great pictures Mike and looked like great weather. I was surprised by how many bikes I saw on the big cols of the TMB, many of them being electric assisted.

Thanks Jim. We had one really bad day (of thunder and lightning) which was, fortuitously, the day I was due to drive the back-up minibus (over the Col du Galibier) but all the rest were fantastic. I’m not sure electric assisted mountain bikes were available when we did the ride! They’d be far too heavy anyway to hump (or push) over some of those cols!

Thanks Donna. The guys in the office were completely bonkers… No challenge was too great. E.g. there’s a Tour du Lac (LΓ©man/Lake Geneva) event every year, which is 175km (nearly 110 miles) long. I was coerced (OK, I was easily persuaded) into doing that too! At least it was basically flat! We aimed to ride all together and do it in under 6 hours, but me and a couple of others dropped off and it took me 6h 40mins. That’s not bad for a complete novice, but my ‘sit bones’ were sore for a week!! (I can still feel it now I’m sure!)
