With everything going on with regard to selling the chalet and organising our move back to the UK, I’m a bit behind with my blogging. However, I’m determined to bring you as many of my favourite walks as possible before we leave and this is a walk I did last week (on 29th July).
I had hoped to find a Cynthia’s Fritillary (Hypodryas cynthia), which are often seen in the Val de Réchy, but it wasn’t to be. But then I did see a lot of butterflies and, in Part 2, I’ll bring you an image of so many I bet you won’t be able to count them. (I did count 18 and a moth in pic. no. 22 below, but that’s just an appetiser for what’s to come tomorrow…)

If this result of one walk is only an appetiser, I wonder what’s comming tomorrow…
I’m not able to find your one day result in a week 😉
Nice shots and above all lovely mountain views.

Thank you! I’ve just scheduled Part 2 for 9am CET tomorrow morning! (I like to keep the suspense going! 😉) We are certainly very fortunate to have so many butterflies around here (though I think this year there has not been as many as last – or maybe I’m not looking hard enough!) We have a good forecast for this coming week, so maybe things will pick up even more! 😊

That’s a very late Pearl Bordered Frit!

I hope I identified it correctly(?) But it does/did look a bit faded. My ‘go to’ website seems to suggest they do run in to August. https://lepido.ch/espece/grand-collier-argente/

Probably second brood, yes it’s a PBF

Thanks for the confirmation, Brian. I always wonder whether I get them right.

Just looked again and it has too many silver patches for PBF so that makes it a Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, which do appear slightly later and have two broods.

It’s not a great photo I have to say (at least for id purposes). My best guess was based on the lepido website book, which says the Small one has more of a ‘V’ or chevron at the edges of the lower wings, whereas the Grand is almost a triangle. Looking again, they do look more triangular, so you are probably right. I need some more lessons!
