For various reasons, which will become clear in due course, I have not been out for a long walk recently. However, I have been wandering up our little road and below are a few images taken last week. I was particularly pleased to capture my first Apollo of the year, (if not in the best light – see pic 6), but two Painted Ladies (Vanessa cardui) managed to escape my camera.

Really nice set there Mike.

Thanks Brian. I was a little disappointed that they were mostly the same old suspects from the previous weeks, but it’s still a challenge to try and get a decent photo worth posting.

These are all so beautiful, Mike, great work! The butterfly on your shoe is cool too!

Many thanks Donna. It’s funny how the butterflies sometimes do that, (landing on shoes), but it does save me chasing them around!

I’ve had a couple of Painted Ladies escape my lens as well. They really are strong and unpredictable flyers sometimes – just all over the place. And at speed. Lovely soft lighting on the Small Heath.

Thanks David. My first Painted Lady was on the flowers in our wall when I came back from my run the other weekend, but I never had my camera with me. I dashed inside to get it and when I came out it, inevitably, had gone. The Small Heath was also in our garden. I spotted it on the way back from walking up the road. I also missed a Clouded Yellow of some sort. Again they didn’t stay around long enough for me to get near.

Yes, the blue ones are cute! (Though note that the two pics are different butterflies… If you view the gallery the ‘titles’ are at the bottom of the screen, though WP seems to remove all special characters and makes things lower case for some reason!) There over 40 different blue ones in Switzerland, so I try to show different ones in each gallery. 😊
