Last week, Jude and I went for a drive up to Arolla to do a walk up the valley. We knew that heli-skiing (and heli-boarding) had become popular, but even we were surprised to see not one, but three helicopters waiting to take their clients high into the mountains. We were lucky in that 5 people arrived just as we got to the first one and soon they took off. (See pics 4 & 5). On our return another group arrived and a second (pic 7) soon disappeared over the horizon. As we made our way back through the woods, it seemed like only a matter of minutes had elapsed and the 5 in the first group came whizzing by, obviously eager to take off for at least a third time!

This must be a very expensive kind to enjoy the winter sports 😉 Lovely pictures of the environement.

Yes, it’s certainly not a cheap sport. But for some, it must be worth it. 🤔

It was a true treat to see the deep snow and breathtaking Alps in their winter glory, Mike. I can imagine how fun it must be to take a helicopter up and come flying down the mountain on skis. I enjoyed all your photos here, but espec. liked #10 with the deep snowy path and the enchanting tree shadows. Fun to see the snowshoe path sign, too.

I’m really glad you enjoyed the series of photos, Jet. We took a detour off the main track, following the path downtrodden by previous snowshoes. I nearly called picture no. 10 “Shadows”, for the same reason you mentioned. 😊

Incredible shots of this beautiful Snow covered wonderland! How incredible to imagine taking a special helicopter to the top and skiing down!!

Thanks and yes, it does sound like fun (if only I was good enough to ski off-piste…) Though it’s a dangerous hobby, with avalanches always a possibility (though I think a Qualified Mountain Guide is mandatory for these trips).
