On Monday, I decided to see how far I could walk up the Ferpècle valley from La Sage (where Jude dropped me off) before walking all the way back home again via Sepey and Les Haudères. I thought that I may have to turn around due to any residual snow, but I needn’t have worried, as there was hardly any at all. (I guess this just shows how warm it’s been recently).
I love the Spring, as it’s like starting all over again to discover ‘new’ flowers, bugs and butterflies every time you go out. And this walk was no exception. I should point out that I generally post photos of my ‘first sightings’ each time I see something new, (assuming I can get a picture of course – the Camberwell Beauty eluded me again on this walk). So, unless I get a particularly good photo, you shouldn’t see the same flower or butterfly again. But don’t worry, there are plenty of things out there for me to (re)-discover this season. 😊

Super shot of the Wood White (a male, you can just see the white patches on the antenna) getting the light shining through shows all the inner wing markings that usually remain hidden.
Yes a PB Frit.
I’ve looked through ‘Eurobutterflies’ and I don’t think Ringlet the nearest match is Large Wall Brown.

I’m glad you liked that shot of the Wood White. I took several photos as it was still a bit lethargic in the morning. I narrowed it down to 2 and (my wife and I) chose that one. Thanks for the confirmation of the PB fritillary, I wasn’t sure. And maybe I was looking in the wrong section of my book for the brown one. (Also not having the underside doesn’t help). I’ll ask my expert and I’ll let you know. Many thanks for taking the time to comment.

you know… I never see anything repeated in your photos, every single one is unique to me and I never bore of them, so just post everything, they are all amazing and beautiful… and where you live… what an absolute privilege!!!!

Well, I do try to mix it up a bit, but there is only so much variation you can do. (That’s one of the reasons I was posting less last year – I’d run out of ‘something different’ aka motivation). There is of course plenty out there if I go looking (like those bisse walks, though I have to drive for 30 minutes to get to the start) and certainly at the moment, I’m trying to stay local. But you are right that is such a privilege to live here, it would be rude not to share some photos of what might seem ‘boring’ or ‘same old’ to me. Many thanks for your encouragement. I’ll see what I can do next time… (though we have a few clouds and rain this week, so it might be the weekend before normal service is resumed). That said, I have a humdinger of an archive (or two) to post… 😊

Yes, we’ve had the heating on recently too. Though we do live at 1,400 metres where it tends to be 5 degrees cooler than the Rhone valley. Occasionally you get inversion where it can be warmer here, but that’s not very often.
