While the UK is recovering from yet more wet weather, the upper parts of the Val d’Hérens have had their first serious snow of the year.  Yesterday about 20 – 25 cm (8-10″) fell in our valley and this morning it’s decidedly crunchy underfoot.

I’m sure I’ve posted similar images to these before, but perhaps not this early in the year.

Yes, it has it’s moments – offset by the cold and snow clearing of course. (There’s always a cloud attached to the silver lining). 😉

I love fresh snow in the mountains, we had it a month early in the Canadian Rockies this year too.

That sounds nice. Ours may well disappear over the next few days, maybe even week. But more is sure to come… 😊

Stunning photos, Mike. Thanks for sharing the breathtaking beauty of the Alps, the freshness, sunshine, shadows, and of course the bright, white snow in these towering mountains. It takes a ruggedly brave person to face the winter ahead here, and you and your wife are to be congratulated.

Thank you Jet. My wife must be especially hardy as she’s flown over to Iceland for a short holiday with her friend. The temperature is not much different to here, but it sounds a lot colder. Brrr…!

Thank you Donna. That snow faded away over the next week or so but then we got the same amount again. So we’re back to the same (if not better) views. 😊

So beautiful. Snow makes places beautiful to admire. We do not have snow in the south, but in the middle and northern parts yes. Thank you.

    Hake a nice day!
