Having recently done a walk around both ends of our valley, at Arolla and Ferpècle, and been up behind our chalet to the Col du Torrent twice (well, once nearly), yesterday it was the turn of the opposite side and an ascent of the Pic d’Artsinol.  Like most of Europe, we are having a bit of a heatwave at the moment, so it would have been foolish of me not to take advantage of the chairlift, which saved me around 700m or 2,300ft of climbing.  I still had over 800m or 2,600ft to go mind you, followed by a looong descent back to Evolène.

As you will see below, the skies were perfectly blue, the views from the top were simply amazing and the butterflies were out in force!

Stunning views, Mike. Really enjoyed those paths of yours. The two butterflies are parked like two beautiful Spitfires ☺

Thank you Hanna, I’m glad you enjoyed my post. At one point there were 3 butterflies ‘ready for take off’ and one certainly did! (Though I was aware that I might then need to identify 3 of them, so I was a little bit relieved). 😊

Yes, it’s a fabulous walk with views in all directions – and not too difficult, if you catch the chairlift. 🙂

Well, in my defence, it was hot (like 30 degrees) and it would have been a 1,600m (5,250ft) of ascent/descent. That chairlift is possibly 5 years beyond it’s sell by date, so you do put your life in their hands a bit! Anyway, it gave me more time to take the pictures! 🙂

I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. It was a perfect day for taking them, though a little warm for hiking. 😥
