The forecast yesterday was for bright blue skies but, unusually, it was slightly wrong.  Although there was some blue sky and sunshine, low cloud hung over most of the mountains tops in our valley.  However, my chosen destination of the Becs de Bosson, (at over 3,100m or 10,100ft) looked clearer than most.

During my approach to the Pas de Lona, things didn’t look good but, ever the optimist, I pressed on hoping the clouds would lift and, luckily, this time they did. 🙂

On the way various animals had left some ‘nutrients’ for the butterflies to enjoy.  And, let’s face it, there’s nothing better than a pile of dung to distract a butterfly from the close attentions of a man with a camera. 🙂

My apologies for posting so many images, but this is just the tip of the iceberg…  The walk, which was 23k (14 miles) long and climbed over 1,900m (6,200 ft), took me around 8 hours and so there were plenty of opportunties to stop (and catch my breath) and take some photos.

What a gorgeous hike, and look at all the butterflies! Now, is that beer midway or at the end to celebrate a great day? 🙂

Yes, it was a beautiful, but quite exhausting day. So I treated myself to a beer on the way up and, it was so nice, I had one on the way down as well. I’m nothing if not thorough in my research of a good beer! 🙂

What stunning variety in your butterflies! So pretty. It never occurred to me that they would like dung, to human sensibilities it just isn’t on a par with flower nectar !

Yes, there are so many different sorts with subtle variations in their patterns – particularly the Fritillaries. And I can’t tell the difference between all the blues. My little book has 15 and they all look pretty much the same to me. As for the dung, I’m not sure, I can only assume it has the chemicals and/or salts that they like or need. It certainly keeps them occupied though. 🙂

You’re welcome. I have another post to put together today, so I hope you like the images. We live in the southern (mountainous) part of Switzerland, while Tammy lives in the north, so you may see a bit of a difference. 🙂

Thank you for giving us this knowledge of your site. It is so nice to have images taken by average people showing the beauty of their region. We enjoy the intimacy that comes from those that actually live in the area they talk about and share. Makes everything more believable. At least this is what we try to accomplish in our travels… real people and real images. Its nice having you with us.

Thank you for those nice comments. You’re right that I do like to show off what a wonderful part of the world this is (and any other parts we decide to visit). You’ve also just reminded me that I forgot to Follow your site – oops!

LOL. We can relate. Sometimes we wonder what happened to that wonderful site we discovered only to realize we forgot to hit the follow button so we could get notified. We’re glad you at following but we would have been following your talents anyway. It is good that you enjoy sharing with us the places you visit. It rounds us out and keeps the dream in front of us. Happy shooting and travels to you!!!

Thanks. We’ll be travelling to another part of Switzerland in a few weeks, so that should give you another perspective on the Alps. 🙂

Thank you. It was certainly a lovely walk, even though the clouds came in later. Thankfully I escaped before the rains came, so all was good! 🙂
