As promised yesterday, I went for a walk, not only to the shops, but also along the short path which runs up behind and back to our chalet. I’m glad I did, as below I have 2 quite rare images to share…
The first is of a Tortoiseshell butterfly in the snow. (I bet you don’t see that very often). While the second is of some Spring Meadow Saffron (pic 8), which apparently is quite rare, growing only in the Valais region of Switzerland, and it appears in huge numbers in our valley.
You will also see that the snow is disappearing fast and the Spring flowers are beginning to pop out.

Yes, I was a little bit surprised to see it on the snow myself. But, if you look closely, you can see that it’s having a drink, or taking in some form of nourishment… It’s been rather strange weather here recently (indeed all winter) with quite warm temperatures following the snowfall(s). I think it’s forecast to be 21 degrees C (70 F) in Sion tomorrow.

Sadly, I think the weather has been unusual all over the world. The winter here was very mild. I read a while ago that the upcoming summer months are supposed to be warmer than usual.

I guess well have to wait and see. Though that is one of the advantages of living at (1400m) altitude – the temperature rarely gets above 25 C or 80 F ish. (Though 2 summers ago we had the highest temperature ever recorded in our village of 37 C / 99 F. It was very exceptional, thankfully!)
