I was itching to go for a walk today, but I didn’t want to repeat something that I’ve posted recently. So I looked back at my earliest posts and found this one, which I did back in April 2015. Hence I think this will be new to most of you… 🙂
The walk goes north from the chalet, along the east side of the Val d’Hérens. After climbing about 300 metres (1,000 ft) to Volovron, the path meanders and undulates through the woods to the small village of Eison. From there the path descends and returns via a different route through the woods to Evolène. In total, it’s about 15k or 9 miles.

The mountains had more snow a couple of weeks ago, but the recent (relatively) warm weather has melted some away. I suspect there will be more snow by the end of the year and then walking will get very interesting… but extremely beautiful!

I’d say Sepember is the best month for walking in the Alps, as the peaks are well clear of snow by then and the weather is usually quite nice. 🙂

Thanks for your kind comments. I often wonder which photos people like best. I’m sure everyone sees things differently. My favourite is the panorama (no. 12) as I was pleased the way the wooden raccards came out with the sun shining from the left. I was worried there wouldn’t be much to photgraph at this time of year too, but I ended up with over 250 pictures! Though some of them were taken in multiples of 4 or 5 to make up the panoramic scenes when I got home. (The camera can take panoramic photos, but it sometimes rebels, when there is a change of light from one side to the other, so I go back to the ‘manual’ method).

Yes, we’re very lucky to have all these beautiful walks on our doorstep. (That one is actually quite low down on my recommended list, which is why I don’t do it very often, but don’t tell everyone!) Your book is on order by the way, we are just awaiting a delivery date from Amazon. Fingers crossed that Santa arrives before, or even at, Christmas… 🙂
