English Lake District Walk, Day 1 (of 4) – Braithwaite to Rosthwaite

So there we were, three grown men (average age 61), sitting in a car, outside a pub, waiting for the rain to stop.  What is it about rain that makes us hesitate – whether walking, running or cycling ?  Once you’re out, you don’t mind, but setting off in it, is a definite no, no.

Luckily the Met. Office got it right.  By 11:15 it eased off and we set off with our packs on our backs.  Four days later we would return to this very same spot.

The route today would take us along Newlands Beck, then up and over Catbells and across Maiden Moor to High Spy (@653m/2142 ft), before descending to Rosthwaite with a slight detour around Castle Crag.

    • Absolutely. A few days out hiking with your friends – staying in B&Bs or Inns – a nice meal and ‘a few’ beers in the evening – lots of banter and a cooked English breakfast set you on your way the next day… Life doesn’t get much better than that! 😊
