Walk to Glenelg from Arnisdale, NW Scotland
I think a walk should always have a purpose (don’t you?) and, after noticing that there was a route from Arnisdale to (the nearest pub at) Glenelg, it had to be done. I mentioned yesterday that it’s 10 miles by road, but my personal ‘pilgrimage’ would be 13 miles, via ‘the scenic route’…
It would take me up the Arnisdale valley for no more than a mile, then go sharp left, up and around to the right, into the Coire Chorsalain, before reaching it’s highest point at the Bealach Aoidhailean. From there it was a steep drop to an occasionally boggy track along a line of pylons. A good track was then found at Srath a Chomair, which soon became a tarmac road down Gleann Beag, before meeting the ‘main’ road about a mile south of Glenelg.
Throughout my walk across the early moorland sections, I could hear the bellowing of stags. It’s the mating season after all. At the Bealach, I could hear one clearly to my left, but my poor eyesight meant that I could only just about make out that there was ‘something over there’. I took a picture or two to zoom into later and the results are in the gallery below. (See pics 8, 9 & 10) I counted at least a dozen hinds and one impressive looking stag (on the right of pic 10).
Unbeknown to me, there was a brewery on the route but, unfortunately, it wasn’t open last Monday… 😌 Thankfully though the Glenelg Inn was and I have Jude to thank for coming to pick me up! It would have been a long stagger back. Cheers everyone! 🍺🍺😊
