When Dave Berry created this route and wrote his book, I don’t suppose he envisaged a golfer doing it in reverse, as a sort of pilgrimage to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Well, that was more or less what it was, especially with The Open taking place there this year. Though I have to say that I was slightly disappointed upon arrival, as the course was not as ‘awesome’ as I’d imagined, partly perhaps because it was still covered in stands which were gradually being dismantled. (It looked just like a building site, with official entrance and exit gates for all the comings and goings of the articulated lorries).

The last ‘leg’ was also pretty boring because much of it followed an old, disused railway track, now turned into a recreational path cum cycleway, which is good, but, with trees and bushes almost all the way alongside, there were very few ‘views’ to speak of – apart from the odd glimpse of another golf course. (See pics 8 & 11). 👍😊

By the time I ’emerged’ at West Kirby, the wind had got up and it was nice to see a lot of people taking advantage of the various water sports now on offer. Though why the guy was running where he was (see pic 19), is completely beyond me! 🤔

My apologies for the quality of picture 14. I saw 4 or 5 similar looking dragonflies during my walk but it was the only photo I managed to get!

Your dragon looks like a southern Hawker.

Thanks Brian. I had no idea what it might be. I’d hoped to get a better picture but it flew off and I wasn’t even sure I’d captured anything. It was the only one which stayed close and low enough to the path.

So many beautiful pictures you share Mike. Picture 30 is as cute as can be and I think it looks a little too adventurous there in picture 19.

Yes, somebody obviously went to a lot of trouble to create that tree ‘sculpture’. And, it was blowing a gale so the sea was lapping over that causeway. I thought he was mad, but maybe he did that regularly! 🤔

It has now been two months since you posted anything Mike. Hope all is well and new adventures await. Guess everything is fine, you are so kind to comment on my posts. Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Yes, I know, it has been a while… Truth is we have now acquired a puppy (a Springer Spaniel, called Tomos) and, as you will certainly appreciate, he’s taking up a lot of our time. He’s too young to walk any distance yet, and my wife was worried that if I posted anything about this ‘news’, he might be dognapped (that’s equivalent to kidnapped or stolen btw). Hopefully it’s sufficiently ‘hidden’ here in the comments not to be noticed. But he surely will make an appearance sometime (soon I hope)! The rest of the time I’m playing golf, which doesn’t make for good blogging – especially when I don’t play very well! I nearly posted some pictures of the few colourful flowers that were in the garden, but didn’t get round to it and it’s probably too late now.

Oh… big congrats to your new four-legged family member!! Then I understand and I know, they require a lot of attention.
Really looking forward to seeing some photos of Tomos, provided he doesn’t get dognapped, although he probably won’t be since his presence is a well-kept secret 😁
Thanks for the explanation and btw, it’s never too late to post those colorful flowers.

Thanks Jet. It seems a long time ago now! I’ve not done many walks recently as we’ve acquired a puppy, who is taking up a lot of our time and he can’t walk too far yet. I’ll no doubt start blogging again soon when we take him somewhere nice. (I almost got a picture of him today with some very colourful, red and orange, ferns, but he wouldn’t sit still long enough!
I very much enjoyed your latest post. You’ve obviously seen some unusual birds!
