The buddleia and bramble bushes in our garden have been awash with butterflies for the past two weeks – when the sun came out obviously. The gallery below shows ten different species, captured on three separate days.

Tomorrow, I set off on Part 2 of my Dee Way walk to Hoylake. Hopefully the weather will be a lot better than Part 1! 🤞🤞 My apologies in advance if I’m slow to respond to any Comments and/or to Like any of your posts.

Fantastic, Mike – I haven’t seen any commas yet, but spotted my first painted lady today, plus a hummingbird hawkmoth has visited my buddleia multiple times. The wood brown is gorgeous, I’ve never seen one!

Yes, Commas can be very elusive. I don’t recall ever seeing one until I was visiting our friend Arthur in Spain about 10 years ago. Now I can’t stop seeing them! They are quite common around here. (Perhaps they’re just not city dwellers!?) We also had a hummingbird moth the other day. I took several pictures but none came out very well, so I excluded it from this post. The Wood Brown only appeared today, so I added that in (together with the Red Admiral taken from the front). 😀

Sorry Viv, I just realised I put Wood Brown when it should have been Wall Brown! I think my mind mixed it up with a Speckled Wood. (I’ve now corrected it).

Thanks! I’ve already seen 10’s of speckled woods and gatekeepers. On one stretch there must have been a dozen or more butterflies in the air at once! I didn’t know which way to turn! 😀

That a nice collection of butterflies you got there Mike. After a poor start, more butterflies seem to appear now. Most of them we have also here in Belgium. The last one I found was the small copper (it was my first one of that species).
Thanks for sharing these nice captures and let’s hope the month of august will bring us some more summer weather. Enjoy the your sunday and many greets.
