I mentioned in my previous post that there were still a few alpine flowers and butterflies around in the Val d’Hérens. Indeed, on my way back from the shops, I noticed quite a surprising variety by the side of the road up to our chalet. So I decided to take a wander and capture as many as I could before they all disappear until next year…
I’ve done my best to identify each one of them, but I cannot be sure about some.
I’m glad you liked the photos. I’m a mathemetician/IT person by background, so I like to be precise. I’d hate it if I said it was A and it turned out to be B. I’ve already done that on one post, which I discovered after contacting a butterfly expert. He sent some links to help me identify them and that’s improved things a lot. BUT, the flowers remain a bit of a mystery as the example pictures in my book are quite small. If I can get close to identifying them, then I can usually confirm via the Web, but that takes up a lot of time when you have 6 or 7 to find. So I then ‘approximate’ to my best guess. 🙂

I’m also looking at the ‘classic’ Sierre-Zinal for August, which is something I’ve always wanted to do and it appears to fit into my busy schedule. 🙂 It’ll be tough, but this time next year, or the year after, it’ll be toughter still. (I’ll be an official OAP then). So I’d better get on the case pdq. I did another 64 minutes yesterday, so I’m getting back into the groove! 🏃♂️
