With the heatwave continuing, Jude and I decided to take a trip to the pretty village of Plockton, which was used for the filming of the TV series Hamish Macbeth. It sits on the shores of Loch Carron facing east, away from the prevailing winds.
On the west side of the peninsular there’s a few beaches marked on the map, so we set off in search of one of them with our picnic. For much of the day we were on our own apart from a herd of highland cows who, like us, took to cooling off by paddling in the crystal clear waters.
Later in the afternoon we took a boat ride on one of Calum’s Seal trips, where you don’t have to pay if you don’t see any seals. We were not disappointed, as one of the small islands in the loch was covered by around 30 to 40 seals.

I’m glad you managed to experience Plockton at its best and visit the coral beach too. The boat trip sounds good and I must add this to my list of things to do next time I’m over in Lochalsh!

Yes, you should. The skipper is a bit of a comedian (though I’m not sure all of the visitors got the jokes !)

Haha! I know a skipper like that on the Black Isle. I think I was the only person on the boat laughing at his jokes on a dolphin spotting trip last year!

Coming to this post a few years later, it’s interesting to see a slight difference in the views with the slightly different seasons. This is clearly a little more summery!

It wasn’t that much later in the year (maybe 2 or 3 weeks). It’s just the weather up there can be so different from one day to the next, if not one moment to the next.
